2HOURS:
Urban Climbing
Experience
Discover one of Chongqing’s most unexpected outdoor experiences — a natural riverbed rock scramble hidden inside the city. Follow local trails through bamboo forests and mountain paths, then reach a hidden viewpoint where wild mountains, the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, and the cyberpunk skyline come together.
Chongqing is different — in the most unexpected way.
This is a climbing experience that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. In the heart of Chongqing, you’ll experience the thrill of scrambling across a natural riverbed that was once covered by a small mountain stream.
Instead of climbing on a developed rock wall, you’ll use your hands and feet to make your way across natural rocks, following the old path of the stream. This natural rock section is also a favorite route among local outdoor lovers.
Your guide will take you through rural paths, into dense bamboo forest and along undeveloped mountain trails, before leading you deep into the hills.
After the climbing and exploration, you’ll reach one of Chongqing’s most unique hidden viewpoints, overlooking the whole Yuzhong Peninsula, where the Yangtze River and Jialing River meet, with Chongqing’s skyline stretching across the horizon.
This is one of Chongqing’s most unusual contrasts: wild mountain landscapes on one side and a huge cyberpunk city below. A truly unique outdoor experience that can only happen in a city like Chongqing — the Mountain City.

The experience starts at one of Chongqing’s major metro stations. From there, your guide will lead you onto small local paths, where you’ll see an authentic side of Chongqing’s countryside and local rural life hidden right next to the busy city.
Then we’ll enter a dense bamboo forest, one of the most distinctive natural landscapes around Chongqing. Walking through the bamboo, you’ll hear the leaves moving in the wind — it almost feels like stepping into a Kung Fu world.
Next comes the most interesting part of the route: the natural riverbed rock scrambling section. During summer, much of this section is covered by a small stream. In autumn, the rocks are fully exposed, making it a favorite route among local outdoor lovers. This section is a little adventurous. There is no designed trail, so every step becomes part of the exploration — you’ll need to figure out your own way across the rocks. Your guide will be there to help you choose a safe way through.
After the rock scrambling, we’ll enter the wild forest of Fenghuang Valley and hike deeper into the mountains, surrounded by dense forest.
Deep in the forest, we’ll reach a hidden viewpoint with a unique perspective over Chongqing. From here, you can look across the whole city and see how its mountains, rivers and high-rise buildings come together. It’s also one of the best places to understand the unusual geography of the Mountain City.
Finally, we’ll reach Tushan Temple, hidden deep in the forest. It is one of the oldest temples in Chongqing, with traditions connected to Buddhism, Taoism and local beliefs in the natural world.
And all of this happens right in the heart of a huge modern city — wild mountains and forests alongside high-rise buildings and the city skyline. That contrast is what makes this route so uniquely Chongqing.
